ABOUT US

“Music Matters is a valuable conduit for young artists, giving them the opportunity to experience live performance on air. This program encourages the development of our young performers as they strive to become Australia’s future bright stars. For listeners of all ages it’s a heart-warming, informative and entertaining show that is making a significant contribution to Australian cultural life by encouraging young performers and listeners alike to develop their artistic talents.”  Internationally Renowned Composer, Allan Zavod –  Doctor of Music, Melbourne University

Music Matters is a highly entertaining arts and lifestyle youth radio program that showcases local emerging artists to give them both media exposure and live performance experience. Music Matters features a variety of musical genres, celebrity artists and guest industry hosts speaking on a wide range of topics. Music Matters was launched by Aria Award winning artist, Wally de Backer, aka Gotye, in July 2012 on SBN’s youth show Primary Perspectives as part of the show’s content portfolio. Several accolades that Music Matters shares with Primary Perspectives are the CBAA Award for Australia’s Best New Radio Talk Program 2102, plus Top Finalist in the Best Digital Media Initiative and Outstanding Youth Categories 2012.

The Music Matters segment quickly grew into a monthly one hour special and exactly one year later, in July 2013, Music Matters launched as its own independent Saturday morning show on 94.1fm 3WBC, hosted by Frank Dixon and Miani Rose, while still remaining a monthly 1 hour special on Primary Perspectives’ national broadcasts on CRN and international broadcast via Kidz Hub Media USA, Canada and the Caribbean. Music Matters went on to receive a Top Finalist accolade for Australia’s Best New Music Program at the 2013 CBAA Awards, which was a phenomenal result for a program hosted by 2 fourteen-year-olds at the time – Frank and Miani.

Praised as ‘amazing’ by the audience and performers alike, the debut Music Matters Fundraising Concert and International Broadcast held in March 2015 was a sell-out success. The proceeds from the concert helped fund the production of the debut Music Matters International Original Artists Charity Album, a compilation double album featuring original songs from 21 young Australian singer/songwriters, plus original artists from USA, Canada and the Caribbean.

Part proceeds from sales of the Charity Album will be donated to Melbourne City Mission’s Melbourne Academy for disengaged and homeless youth in Australia and the Joshua’s Heart Foundation, which provides food to hungry young people across America.

The MMIOA album project is about young up-and-coming artists having the opportunity to help other young people while gaining exposure for their original music. We’d really appreciated your support in purchasing the fantastic compilation album
